Care

General Maintenance: These plants are fairly low maintenance. Prune away any damaged or dying leaves as needed. Periodically, gently wipe down foliage with a damp cloth to remove any dust. Repot when they have become rootbound (usually every 2 years).

Temperature: Keep temperatures between 16C and 27C. Keep away from drafts and any drastic temperature changes.

Light: Requires bright light, but not direct as it will fade their dramatic colouring. Light conditions that are too low will cause the variegation to disappear.

Watering: Likes the soil moist, but not soggy as they are prone to root rot. Water once the top few inches of soil is dry in the summer, and water less in the winter.

Soil: Any peat-based well-draining mix will work well.

Fertilizer: Use a diluted liquid fertilizer in the spring and summer (May to August). Do not fertilize in the fall or winter.
